Pangong Lake far famed as the largest brackish lake in world is situated at a height of 14,256 feet in Ladakh – Kashmir. However the majority of Pangong water reservoir is spread across the region of Tibet. The Pangong Lake Ladakh is a saline lake spread across an area of 130 Kms in length and 5 Kms in width. The salt lake water is devoid of marine life and the lake is believed to be completely freezes during winter.

This Ladakh Lake is a charming region where one can spot migratory birds like gulls, brahminy ducks, Siberian Cranes, greater Flamingoes, Black winged Stilt, Common Greenshank, Rosy Pelican, Comb Duck, Blue Cheeked Bee – eater etc. The Pangong is a lovely place to relax, refresh, recreate, and pamper self. The journey to the Pangong Lake is soothing to mind, body, and soul making it worth visiting.

  • This Lake in Ladakh falls in the border region hence the farthest point that the travelers are allowed to explore is Spangmik, about 7 Kms along its western bank .

  • The Pangong Lake is a salt lake and supports no aquatic life apart from the migratory birds who feed themselves on insects and fruits.

  • The lake also freezes in the winter hence the best time to visit this Ladakh Lake is during summer season between months of April to October.

  • The Pangong is about 6 hours jeep ride from Leh hence it is advised to take packaged lunch during the trip as the region is barren with no adequate facilities available
