Strategically positioned at a height of 3,500 meters the Padum Valley is also known as Padam. The Padum is the biggest town and administrative center of Zanskar with a population of 1500 individuals according to the last survey. The Padum Valley Ladakh is the most populated valley of the otherwise scarcely populated region of Zanskar. There are numerous villages that make the region of Padum however to meet the needs of the travelers Padum has many restaurants as well as hotels.

The population of Padum Valley is pre-dominantly Buddhist followers however the region is also populated with Sunni sect of Muslims. The ratio of the population is divided into 60% being Buddhist inhabitants whereas 40% being Muslim inhabitants. The Muslims have been native of this Ladakh Valley since 17th century. Recently a Mosque was built for religious purpose of the Sunni sect Muslims.

  • The popular attraction of this valley in Ladakh are the Starrimo Monastery, Pibiting village, Bardan’s 17th century Gompa, Karsha Gompa, Sani Gompa, and Stongde Gompa.

  • The way to reach Padum Valley is via Srinagar or Leh as it is well connected through air. The destination is also well connected by regular bus service from Kargil.

  • The best time to visit the valley of Padum is between months of July to October .
