Nubra Valley the lowest valley in Ladakh is ranging between 3048m at Hundar and 3231m at Panamik. The enchanting Ladakh valley is also famed as valley of flowers” and in Ladakhi language Nubra means green hence it is also known as the “Green Valley”. The valley of Nubra is situated at a distance of 150 Kms from Leh and is one of the most fertile valleys in the Trans – Himalayan region. The valley is harvested by the two rivers Nubra and Shyok. The two rivers and the abundant glaciers make the Nubra valley as well as the terraced fields rich in alluvial soil.

This charming Ladakh valley was once the ancient trading route that connected the eastern Tibet with Turkistan via the famous Karakoram Pass. Nubra valley in Ladakh was opened to the tourists in the year 1994 by government of India. The adventurous trekking route of the Nubra valley has given a tremendous boost to the tourism in Ladakh. The main villages of Nubra are Khardong village, and Khalser with Deskit being the largest town of the valley. The Nubra valley Ladakh is not affected by the modernization unlike Leh or Zanskar. The valley is also a restricted area and the travelers need permit to enter the valley.

  • The best time to visit this valley in Ladakh is between months of mid May until August.

  • The region was opened in the year 1994 and is a restricted area with special permit required to make entry.

  • The fertile Nubra valley supports the farmers to grow apples, apricots, barley and orange berries. The staple flour of this valley is Tsampa grown in abundant by the farmers.

  • The population of the valley is pre-dominated by the Buddhist followers and Buddhist cultures.

  • The main attraction of Nubra are Bactrian camels, sand dunes, Panamik hot sulfur  springs, Deskit and Shamstaling monasteries, and the Khardung La pass.
