Drass Valley records a temperature as low as -40 degree Celsius in winters and the town is admired as the second coldest inhabited place in Asia with an altitude of 3300 meters. Drass Valley Ladakh is a small town of the Ladakh valley situated at about 60 Kms from west of Kargil. The Drass, Ladakh is formed between the Drass River, Machoi Glacier, and Zozila Pass en-route to Srinagar. The valley of Drass gives a warm welcome to the travelers amid its three stone figures of a king and two women carved on pillars at entrance of Drass. The town is covered with Willow groves by the side of Drass River giving a splendid view to cherish. In the winter the dipping temperature and extreme snowfall makes this valley in Ladakh covered under the thick blanket of snow.

  • Drass Valley Leh Ladakh is populated with the Dard Stock, an Aryan race that migrated from the Central Asia.

  • The language spoken in this Ladakh valley is different from the dialects spoken in other parts of Ladakh and the language is popularly known as Shina.

  • The population is mainly Muslim the followers of Islam and Buddhist is a minority community in the region.

  • The short summer with less fertile soil does not support adequate agricultural growth however the crops grown in the area are barley and coarse cereals.

  • The favorite sport of the Drass is Polo and the best time to visit the valley in Ladakh is between May to September.

  • Situated on the Leh- Srinagar route the Drass valley is the popular base for trekking into Suru Valley and pilgrimages to Amarnath Caves.
