Thiksey Monastery is the most photographed monastery of the region situated at a distance of 17 Kms towards south of Leh. This Ladakh Monastery is the most sacred Buddhist shrine to worship and celebrate Buddhist cultures. The Thiksey Monastery Ladakh is the largest monastery in Ladakh positioned at the top of a rocky hill built in the 15th century by Gelukpa monks. The monastery is the sprawling home to 500 Buddhist monks and is the stunning center of preaching Buddhist teachings.

Leh Thiksey Monastery is fragmented into temple on the right of the courtyard houses, 15 meter statue of the Maitreya, or future Buddha, while at the back of the Dukhang there is a Buddha statue dating from the 15th century.
