The Shey Monastery is the remains of previous summer palace of the kings of Ladakh built on the edge of a rocky cliff. This Shey Monastery Ladakh is situated at a distance of 15 Kms from Leh towards southern direction of Thiksey. The star attraction of the Ladakh Monastery is 12 meter Shakyamuni Buddha statue crafted in gold-plated copper by King Singge Namgyal’s son Deldan Namgyal. The statue of the Shakyamuni Buddha is the largest in the region and attracts devotees from across the world.

Shey monastery in Ladakh has a small library in the subordinate chapel and a compilation of tangkhas. The Gompa complex is divided into two parts with a huge Chorten (Stupa) with golden spires, whereas to its right are the remains of a fort. Shey Monastery spread across the nearby fields and along the mountain foothills, displays largest collection of decayed Chortens, in Ladakh.
