Phyang Tsedup Festival

  • The Buddhist sacred monastery Phyang is a religious haven to 70 Buddhist monks and is situated at 17 Kms to the west of Leh.

  • Tsedup the annual festival also popularly known as Phyang Tsedup is hosted for 2 days on the second and third day of the 6 month of the Tibetan Lunar calendar. This festival usually falls in the late July or early part of August and is mainly celebrated by the Buddhist followers.

  • The Phyang Tsedup festival is celebrated with special prayers, chanting of auspicious Buddhist mantras, and sacred mask dance by Buddhist monks.

  • The main attraction and part of festival is the dramas or ‘Chhams’
