Matho Nagrang Festival

  • Magnificent Matho Nagrang is the significant Ladakh festival celebrated at the Matho monastery the only monastery that beliefs in the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism.

  • Leh Matho Nagrang festival is celebrated every year on the 15th day of the 1st month of Tibetan Lunar calendar.
     
  • The Matho Nagrang is rejoiced for two consecutive days with mask dances performed by monks representing different forms of Gods and Goddesses as well as dramatization of legends.

  • The star attraction of festival is however the appearance of two oracles after one month of meditation in isolation. They appear in the courtyard with the mask dancers to predict the future events. The people from distant land come to seek advice for eradicating all evils from life.
