Gustor Festival Ladakh

  • The Gustor is celebrated across Thiksey, Spituk and Karsha at Ladakh and is popularly known as Karsha – Spituk Gustor.

  • The Karsha Spituk Gustor festival is observed in different months of the year according to the Tibetan Lunar calendar. However the festival is mainly celebrated in the month of July.

  • This Spituk festival is celebrated for two consecutive days to mark the ultimate victory of good over evils.

  • The Karsha Spituk Gustor festival also includes mask dances as a ritual. The masks worn by the dancers represent angels, guardians, protectors, gods, and goddesses.  

  • The Karsha Spituk Gustor ends with burning of the effigy representing evils to mark the victory of good. The festival signifies that good always win over evil at the end so one needs to follow the righteous path to attain a blissful life.
