Dosmoche Festival

  • The Ladakh festival popular as Dosmoche has several significance from being the annual prayer festival to the festival of scapegoat, and the New Year festival rejoicings at Leh – Ladakh other than Losar.

  • Dosmoche festival is famed as the annual prayer festival as it was once recognized by the Kings of Ladakh inspired from the famous Mon-Lam or 'Great Prayer' ceremony of Lhasa.

  • The festival of scapegoat or New Year rejoicings falls on the mid or second half of February every year bringing fervor, joyous, and merrymaking spirit back to Ladakh from the ancient cultures.

  • The Dosmoche festival Ladakh decorates a wooden mast with streamers, and religious emblems, whereas ritual figures are made out of dough to burnt or ceremonially cast into the desert. These rituals are believed to make the scapegoat carry away all the evils of the last year to purify the city so as to welcome the New Year.
